John Michael

Working in oil and pastel, the Mississippi-born painter John Michael brings the openness and vividness of Color Field painting to depictions of landscapes. Fields and skies are defined by strong bands of bright, almost hallucinatory color, which may or may not correspond to reality. Critics have compared her to Mark Rothko and to the 19th-century luminaries.
